The WVRD is a news and information source dedicated to the study of wildlife and its management. It has been in business for more than 65 years, but it has grown over the last few decades to become an important voice for the West Virginia countryside. In this blog post, you will learn about the WVRD’s new business media center, prospect enrollment at the WVWD, and new opportunities for students and employees. You will also learn about how the new campus became a focal point for recreational travelers in the region.

    What is the WVRD?

The West Virginia Riding District is a state-recognized organization dedicated to promoting the interests of West Virginia’s riding and rambling communities through a variety of media. The WVRD has been in business for more than 65 years, but it has grown over the last few decades to become an important voice for the West Virginia countryside. The WVRD has its own digital media organization, WVRD Digital, which is headed by the formerly retired John R. Lamm. In addition to the traditional news and information services, the WVRD also publishes a daily online magazine, West Virginia Wild, as well as occasional print pieces. The magazine reaches a wider audience than the website, and the print version is distributed to more than 1,000 subscribers.

    The New Business Media Center

The new business center in Morgantown will provide a large-scale, centralized location for all of the functions that make up the WVRD — news, information, and programming. The WVRD’s news and information departments will remain intact, but the new media center will feature a new, state-of-the-art newsroom and an innovative news production facility.

    Prospect enrollment at the WVWD

The number of prospective students applying to West Virginia University has grown exponentially over the past few years. In fact, the number of applications received through the program has more than tripled since 2007. In order to support this growth, the WVWD has been running a semi-annual prospective enrollment program for students. In Spring 2014, more than 3,000 applicants applied for the program, with more than half of them being from out-of-state students.
